The Valley of Öxnadalur
The Valley of Öxnadalur Reviews
The Valley of Öxnadalur Oct 10, 2010
öxnadalur is a valley located in north iceland. The site is famous in iceland because the band sigur rós performed a concert here and also for a mountain peak called "hraundangi" which is mentioned in the saga of grettir the strong.
the valley is not far from akureyri, the second largest city in iceland. The valley is towered by a peak called Þverbrekkuhnjúkur (although i think its not the highest - but it dominates the whole mountain range) and the valley is divided by a fast flowing river called öxnadalsá which is freezing in temperature.
there are many hiking paths in the valley that leads to "öxnadalsheiði", where it leads to small canyons for which the öxnadalsá river runs through.
it is one of the most beautiful places in iceland that i had seen, in sunset, the silhoutte of the cragged mountain peaks towers over the valley and in sunrise - the sunlight beams through peaks and giving them an orangey surreal color.
