The Troyan Horse Reviews
The Troyan Horse That Saves Lives Jun 19, 2008
We discovered this place by accident biking/running by. Some already know the story, the original *WUI version of my Troyan Horse review from the last night. I have to admit that rereading that thing in the morning made my hair stand up and blood rushed into my head under big pressure...so there it goes once again... :)
Located in the green of the Stromovka Park, just steps away from the Vltava river, the gigantic wooden Troyan Horse makes you stop and walk in to check out what it all is about. It stands there alone on the corner, right off the pier where steamboats bringing the Prague ZOO visitors push in. It's hard to miss. The legs open and serve as a bar along with the big bar counter made out of a fairly thick wooden board, pretty rough and natural, nothing shiny and fancy :) There is a drink list, not too vast, just a couple of items including two or three kinds of wines, canned beer, bottled water, the coffee is said to be really good. The wines are something worth highlighting since they are all made out of grapes growing in the surrounding vineyards that are said to have been found by the Czech monarch Charles IV. I still have to find out more about that one. There is the gallery upstairs. It's really cool, makes you feel like you have just walked into a different world. There are fish (I didn't check out what material they are made from) hanging from the ceiling, there's a big painting along the main wall facing the staircase, again with some 'fish' scene on it. You can walk around and see lots of interesting pictures and other pieces of art that are all originals and have been made by the owner of the place. He's an amazing man, an artist in every way. He created this whole place himself for people to enjoy and have a drink listening to some cool jazz music, check out the gallery upstairs...The point is that while we're chilling out we're kind of doing a good deed...all money we spend or decide just to donate is collected and sent to Africa to the 40children that the owner has been sponsoring for years now. He goes to see them every year.... I 'wasted' all my money on a wine bottle my friend and I emptied off hand, didn't have much left to buy some of the cute pictures...I'll be back soon... *Write Under Influence :) |
