Haunted history at it's best Sep 19, 2012
The Stanley Hotel is historic and well kept for it being built in 1909. The old rooms and atmosphere are nostalgic. The rooms are cut off from the tourists and only guests can go up. They have old fashion keys which I love. You'll need to book a room well in advance if your are visiting during peak seasons or on the weekend. Parking is $5 if you are just visiting to see the hotel. But I drove around the back and got in for free just because I can, lol. Tours including a haunted tour are pretty awesome for the history of the hotel. This is where Steven King was inspired to write The Shining, but the movie wasn't filmed here. The only movie that was filmed here was Dumb & Dumber. The front of the hotel has a beautiful view of the Rocky Mountains. Either as a guest or tourist you'll really enjoy this hotel. FYI the most haunted floor is 4 and 2. 217 and 401 are they rooms to check out.
