Visited this place on Dec 07.
It's a wannabe fine dining place but turns out to be no better than your bog standard UK curry house. Waiter staff have a haughty up their own arse attitude. Piss poor service received even though we were the only table in for the night. Why they had to check reservations to see if they have a table free to let us eat there is beyond me. Quality of food taste is decidely average at best. No thought given to presentation of a la carte mains and appearance was awful for a place that wants to be fine dining. Please avoid this eating hole to save yourself the disappointment and go somewhere a lot better for a 1/3 of the price. |

I'm fortunate enough to get to go to Singapore nearly every year, and I've come to the realization that there's been a boost in the number of fine Indian restaurants. Of course, me being from India, living there for quite a while and just being a general expert on Indian stuff, I see it as my duty to eat at new and promising establishments!
The Song of India lies just on Scotts Road in Singapore and is among a growing population of fine dining restaurants and lounges making their mark on Singapore. I was introduced to the eatery by way of my acquaintance with the chef, who used to work at another great and classy Indian restaurant, Rang Mahal. The great part about the place is that upon entering it, you are greeted by a driveway littered with fresh flowers, graceful statues imitating the days of the Raj welcome you into a villa turned restaurant. The Song of India has an outdoor patio covered with grapevine and candles as well. Indoors, you are welcomed into a decadent abode that allows you to relish the upcoming courses. The service is great, most of the waiters and staff are from India themselves and are more than willing to recommend dishes and authenticate ones more to your liking. For me, I just love the ability to converse with anyone handling my local food in my local tongue! The menu is great, and exactly what one expects out of an upperclass Indian restaurant. The menu is separated by appetizers, types of entrees, etc. Some of the standout courses would include tulsi murgh, gilawat kebab, rajasthani saufwale aloo, etc. Another attractive quirk about the Song of India is that their food appeals to knowledgable locals and eclectic tastes as well. The chef, Millind Sovani, is in pursuit of the perfect meal with the perfect showmanship. The entirety of the meal lets you take advantage of a culinary experience that remains etched in your mind forever! But I am slightly biased, so check out the restaurant for yourself!
