The Soda Factory Sydney Reviews
Intimate Secret Aug 14, 2013
I had seen multiple reviews of this bar on Urban Spoon
and Concrete Playground
I had never been to a 'concealed' bar before so decided to give it a shot.
We went when our friends were over from Ireland and we were determined to convince them how cool and knowledgeable we were in regards Sydney's cool and unusual nightlife. This place lived up to that reputation.
The entrance is a small room with the authentic, stereotypical American-diner look with the black and white checkerboard floor tiles and a neon red signs reading 'Bobby's Boss Dogs'. The bar entrance is concealed behind a faux Coke machine/entry door. Open it up and you are inside the kooky, old-style furnished Soda Factory - bar, music venue and restaurant. The bar is furnished with dark-coloured sofas with crates for tables. The candles make for an intimate atmosphere, as well as the curtains.
We arrived on a Monday night, which is movie night. Con Air was showing on a screen and people were watching or talking quietly throughout the bar. Popcorn is free too on these nights- a nice touch.
They sell hot dogs named after cult-heroes such as 'The James Dean'. Each cost about $10.
