Kitschy Spy Bar- Password please? Jun 03, 2008
The Safehouse is a Milwaukee must see. It is not the hippest club you'll find in Milwaukee, but the spy bar atmosphere is played up so much I guarantee you will enjoy discovering the nooks, crannies, tricks, and traps this clandestine bar tucked in a discreet alley has to offer. If you dare go after 8 when the password kicks in, your host will ask you for a password to enter (sorry you'll have to figure it out for yourself) and if you don't know the password you will have to prove your trust-worthiness by performing a small task prior to entry. (it's all in good fun) Right off the bat you will take a secret passageway into the bar which has worn and ecclectic decor and endless oddities to explore. Like a phone booth that will (if you follow directions) open into a secret exit, which if you're not careful will have you literally on the street with your drink in hand and force you to circle back, shamedly asking the host to get you back in. (That's a mistake you only make once-believe me). Their specialty drinks are awesome but a little pricey, and the food is nothing to write home about (typical bar fare), but frankly the food is not why you go to the safehouse. It is a great place to start a night out and the best way to get the full experience is to get your drink and wander around reading, touching, and trying everything. The typical crowd tends to be a little older (late 20s to 40s) but it is worth stopping by regardless of age to have a drink or two and poke around, even if you plan to leave for the trendier clubs or Water St bars afterwards.
