The Ruins of Monolithos Castle Jun 18, 2015
The ruins of the castle of Monolithos appears when you drive to Prasonisi (Prasonisi is located 30km south of Monolithos). The Castle is located outside of the vilage on top of a 100m rock. The Castle was built in 1480 by the Knights of Saint John to protect the Island from attacks. The castle nowadays is not more then a ruin. So no luxurious rooms laced with gold but you do however get a wonderfull view of the ocean There is not a real path to walk on, you just sort of climb the stairs and the rocks. Watch out because the rocks can be slippery!

Inside the ruins there is a small chapel dedicated to Agios Panteleimon.

Accessing the Castle you have to climb some stairs cut out of rocks. I would not recommend doing this when your a little les mobile.

The climb to the top is accompanied by hundreds if not thousands small piles of rocks.

I really loved the view you get whilst in the ruin. It can be a bit busy because you're not the only one visiting though it never felt crowded to me.
