The Ruins of Ayutthaya
The Ruins of Ayutthaya Reviews
Transported to an ancient world Oct 28, 2012
Ayutthaya is a city about an hour's drive outside of Bangkok. From what i could gather from our delightful tour guide the ancient city of Ayutthaya was the last capital of Thailand before Bangkok. It is a UNESCO world heritage site.
The ruins of the old city are scattered around the new city, we did a day trip there so we had a mini van transporting us around but otherwise i'd say the buses or bikes are the best way to see all the ruins.
There is something very splendid and serene about the ruins. It's spectacular to think that such a powerful and influential Eastern empire once stood in this place where scaffolding is now required to holod up some of the less stable structures. The scale, magnitude and grandeur of some of the religious structures still standing shows how amazing this city once was.
Walking around these utterly photographable ruins i am reminded of the ancient cities of Pompei and ancient Rome that were once so great and now only exist as the beautifully built structures we admire.
I would recommend anyone to go and see them.
