Chilling on a rooftop Aug 03, 2012
Came across the Roof, the only bar that I found with live music that night so I took a peek and it was perfect for me to chill out and have a beer. A place where no one cares if you are alone coz they will all sing and dance with you so you will never feel alone at all!

The band consist only of a guitarist cum single, a lady singer and a drummer but the music they played was awesome, from Oasis all the way to Linkin Park, i should say they are quite amazing.

The bar is full of backpacker, well its Khao San. A great place to meet people from all over the world but there no was no one else from Singapore that night so I was unique. LOL

Cheap beers, great music, what else you would ask for??

If you in bangkok and keen for a good night outt you have to go to this bar. The vibe is electric and the live band is of international quality. I can honestly say that my evening here was one of the best nights out ive ever had.

Drinking on the roof (The Roof Bar & Restaurant) Jul 07, 2009
The Roof is another bar that I choose to get some drink, get drunk and get younger on Kaosarn Road. If you know me, now you will see that my love isn't only Hippie Hi bar! :)

This sqaure bar is on the third floor, the roof. Ok, it's not an open air bar but they set the name as it's on the top floor and you see Kaosarn Road from there. (well, just from one side)

The nice thing is the bands. They start since 6-7pm if I remember and change again around 8-9pm. If you don't want to meet tourists, don't go :) There's a lot. If you want to talk to friends, don't go - music is too loud by the band and the new singers (yes all of customer will sing!). If you want to eat a good food, don't go because I think their food isn't delicious ;) But if you want to drink, to sing, to enjoy good music and you don't care that there's tourist or local but you just want to drink, please go!

The cost i set it as expensive because it's expensive than the other bars on Kaosarn Road. But of course it's cheaper than the beer from Europe, US or some other Asian countries. One beer there is 100THB, other bars on KSR is about 60-80THB for a small bottle.

And don't order the water. It's almost 2 pounds there! :) Because they don't want you to drink water, they want you to drink beer! Cocktail is about 180-200THB per glass. If you want to try Thai rum in the bucket, they also have it! :)

If you plan to stay in Bangkok for many days or weeks, just set one night trip there and try!

The Roof Bar is located on the left hand side of Khao San Road if walking from the Police Station end up Khao San Road itself. Look out for a Large oval red/orange sign with the roof written on it. You have to go inside a building an up a set of stairs and you'll be able to hear the live band from the street...you will more than likely mistake the singers as english as they sing english/american artists songs perfectly but are in actual fact a thai band.

The vibe at the roof bar is electric, everyone sings along to some classic old songs to more recent songs. Every night that i have been there they have sang 'Take me home, Country Roads' but with a 'Khao San Road' lyric change which everyone ends up singing. The song choices are amazing and give a real feel good experience and atmosphere and song requests can be made.

I've been with friends to the bar and also been on my own and inevitably the back packing travelling mood is overflowing in the bar and you end up meeting people and spending the night singing along with people you had never previously met.

The drinks are more expensive here around 90/100B for a chang/singha (£1.70 - £2.00) but even if you can only afford to have a few drinks here its well worth paying the extra.

It can get really warm in the bar even thought the side of the bar is open and over looking khao san roads hustle and bustle but they do have huge fans to help cool the temperature down.
