Affordable dishes Feb 02, 2012
The cheapest Tom Yum Goong I have ever had-100 baht. It comes in a very small bowl. It's the only tom yum goong I had on Phi Phi that has coconut milk in it. It had enough shrimps. It was supposed to serve with rice so it was quite salty. In fact, it was too salty that much as I love its broth, I couldn't finish it. When you eat at the rock, you need to bring with you mosquito repellent because there are many mosquitoes here. The stairs are quite steep. My partner and I agree that we won't come back since it's not worth taking those steps and getting bitten by so many mosquitoes.

Those mosquitoes, maybe they are concerned the longer you stay, the more you get bitten, and maybe that is why they serve you only a small bowl? That would be quite considerate :)

Backpacker hostel on Phi Phi Islands Apr 16, 2011
Great place to meet people, especially other backpackers. This is probably the cheapest place on the island, around 300-400 baht for a fan room. The atmosphere is great and the environment is different, the hostel is up on a hill and has a restaurant in the shape of a boat.

When we were taking a ferry to Phi Phi I heard that The Rock was cheap and fun. So we went and checked it out. For 150baht/night for a dorm, we decided we'd book it and hope for the best.

When we got in the room, there were about 15 others in the room- still sleeping at about 1pm. People started milling about and one guy told me he thought the bed I was going to be sleeping in had bed bugs in it. Not exactly the best thing I've heard when I arrive into a place.

The place was mostly people who worked on the island handing out fliers and worked at the bars. They were up to all hours coming & going, so it wasn't the most restful night sleep.

If you don't care about noise and want to party- then you should stay here. But it was hot and loud, so that is not the best sleeping arrangement.

I didn't get any pictures while I was there, but I wish I had- they had so many funny things written on the walls (funny, but crude)

This place isn't for the faint hearted.

Pork Fried Rice with a top view Sep 15, 2008
Try on pork fried rice in The Rock Rest. It's verrry good, friendly price tag too. Located in Loh Dalum area, you need to climb few stairs to the top. The best thing about The Rock is its fast service, you won't starve waiting for the food to come.

It's on the corner before PP Casita Resort, right across an ATM. Find it when you come to Phi Phi Island!

My-Van came last night.  It was great to catch up and hear how London is going.  It is kind of surreal that we are both here after just kind of nonchalantly chatting about it back in Italy …rock climbing and cooking.  Then, probably koh phi phi for some scuba diving.  Yay!  Might…
