The Redbury @ Hollywood and Vine Los Angeles Reviews
Gorgeous Accommodation and Worth a Splurge. Nov 26, 2011
The Redbury is a boutique hotel located at the famous Hollywood& Vine. It's in a prime location for attractions such as the avenue of the stars, The Pantages theatre, The Avalon theatre, Capitol Records, and The Music Box. It's also within walking distance of Grauman's Egyptian Theatre, Madame Tousad's, and the Kodak Theatre.
From the striking red exterior to the eclectic design of the lobby, my first impressions of this hotel were very positive. I knew we were in for a real treat. Check-in was painless. We arrived around 2pm and our room was ready and waiting for us. It pays to become a member of the sbe rewards ( a free hotel rewards program) to which The Redbury belongs. At check-in we were given a choice of 2 welcome amenities: 2 Signature Cocktails at the hotel restaurant Cleo OR a fruit and water amenity. Obviously we chose the drinks! ;)
The lobby and the hallways are painted that amazing red and the are decorated with oversized photos of 1930s Hollywood starlets.
We had the Sunset flat. It was absolutely gorgeous. The room included a kitchen, living room, bedroom, balcony, and washroom. The design was an open concept. The in-room amenities included a full kitchen area ( gas stove-top, microwave, mini-fridge, Keurig coffee maker, stainless steel tea pot, dishes), washer/dryer combo, flat screen tv, RECORD PLAYER with about 10 albums on vinyl, and a beautiful shower with soothing rain shower head.
The decor is very hard to explain other than eclectic. See pictures...
Cleo is the hotel restaurant. It has a mediterranean flavour. The prices were fairly affordable and the signature cocktail menu is to die for. The atmosphere is trendy chic and gets very busy at night. The service was excellent and the food was great. Other food options located close to the hotel include the famous Katsuya , Beso and an large Irish pub/sports bar.
The hotel also has a indoor/outdoor lounge called The Library. Very cool. The outdoor seating area is located in the centre of the hotel on the 2nd floor so it's very private but still offers the feeling of being in the centre of it all, Hollywood-style.
The hotel is a splurge, for sure, but if you're going to splurge, do it right! I've stayed in hotels that were just as expensive but ended up being a disappointment because they're boring -- same old same old hotel room.
Okay, now the downsides (yes, there have to be some, right?!) :
There is no hotel gym. However, if you're so inclined, the hotel will give you a pass to a 24hr gym .4miles away OR (and this is so L.A) they can arrange, for a cost, to have a personal trainer work-out with you in your room.
The location. Although the location has it's benefits, it's also not that great. There isn't much to do in the area. It's not a rough area but it does have lots of characters! I felt pretty safe though as there are so many people out and about and it stays busy. All the touristy type areas you want to go to (Beverly Hills, Sunset Blvd, Santa Monica etc) are far away. Unless you have a car you don't have that many great options. You can spend ridiculous amounts of money and take a taxi OR you can take the metro (train and bus) but this was not recommended as Los Angeles is prone to traffic and is quite spread out. For example, we wanted to go to Santa Monica. By taxi it would probably cost around $60 each way. There is another option, however. There is a hop-on hop-off bus that stops at all the tourist attractions. It's called Starline and the closest stop to the hotel is beside the Pantages theatre. You can hop on and hop off all day. The 48hr pass was $50 pp. It's great too if you want to learn about the areas you're driving though-- lots of information. That being said, the loops (there is a red, blue and yellow line) are 2 hours each!! As I said... L.A is big.
Wifi: You have to pay for it. $10 a day. The hotel does have a computer in the lobby that offers free boarding pass printing. Great!
This hotel is very special. As someone who stay in A LOT of hotels, I can tell you that quality of product and experience is very important to The Redbury. I definitely recommend...
