In West Malaysia, the major races are Malay, Indian & Chinese
In East Malaysia, and in particular, in the state of Sabah, it is totally different. We have 32 races with more than 100 dialects and are known as ‘ Sabahans’. To name a few, there are Kadazan, Dusun, Brunei, Bajau, Rungus, Sungai, Bisaya, etc. The Malays, Chinese & Indian from West Malaysia are also in Sabah. Some get tranferred, work, live, do business, retire in Sabah. Basically, Sabah was part of Brunei given by the Sultan of Brunei to the Sultan of Sulu (They’re cousins) There are many Bruneians here and also Tausug (Sulu/Suluk) from the Philippines who are Malaysian citizens. Most Filipinos and Bruneians here have intermarried with other races as their great great grandfathers/grandmothers have come here and are considered Sabahans (Malaysians) Besides the Suluk race, there are many Visayans here which are called Orang Bisaya. They are Malaysian citizens with Filipino heritage. They are also part of the Sabahan race. They are not from Philippines. They are Malaysian citizens who have Filipino heritage. However, there are also new ones coming from Mindanao, Manila and many other parts of the Philippines. I'll write more later |
