Fantastic food & coffee, plus a trustworthy tour operator. Nov 28, 2007

Located a few minutes walk from the Haon Kiem Lake and run by an Aussie named Max, the REAL Kangaroo Cafe serves massive plates of delicious food (omelettes, shepherds pies, burgers, etc.) and mugs of coffee.

However, the real reason to visit - as if the large mugs of coffee aren’t a good enough reason! - is because of the tours that they run to HaLong Bay and SaPa.

Professional and friendly staff, huge servings of 'comfort food' and "the biggest mugs of coffee in Hanoi" make this the perfect cafe for backpackers!

We ate lunch at tyhe Kangaroo Cafe, the real one, apparantly there are fakes who rob you so beware. Scam number five is the setting up of businesses with the same name as those recommended in guidebooks and passing yourself off as the real deal or 'sister' company. REAL Kangaroo Cafe - "the biggest mugs of coffee in Hanoi" - and decided to book our trip to SaPa through them. (Sometimes you just get a 'good feeling' about somewhere and that definitely applied here.) It cost us US$115 for four nights - two overnight train… The Water Puppet Show and 'all-you-can-eat' ice-cream buffet!
