The Polaris Hotel Nome Reviews
The Polaris Hotel Jul 24, 2008
The Polaris Hotel is conveniently located near the western end of Front Street - on the corner of Lomen and Bering Streets - easy walking to Nome's attractions and businesses. The building also houses the Polaris Bar & Grill and the Polaris Liquor Store. Each of the three businesses have their own entrances with the hotel's on Bering Street. From the small lobby which has a check-in counter and a pay phone, any room key will open a door leading to the split-level hallways. My hallway is slightly slanted and the floor creaks, indicating the building's age.
My second floor, carpeted room has a window that faces the street. The small room has two single beds, a dresser, a large cable television with remote control, and a small refrigerator. The mini-refrigerator squats on the floor (between one of the beds and the TV which sits on the dresser) to make a small table-top just big enough for my laptop. A small office chair just clears the corners of the two beds. The hotel has wireless internet connection. My $104 room includes a bathroom. The $84 rooms have that facility 'down the hall'. The rooms are old and simple but clean.
The spacious Polaris Bar & Grill downstairs is open until 2:00 a.m. on weekdays and 3:00 a.m. on weekends and offers burgers, sandwiches, fried chicken, and assorted appetizers. My room is directly above the bar but remains surprisingly quiet - probably by the heavy insulation for cold days and nights of winter.
