The philippines is the 2nd largest archipelago in the world, consisting of 7,107 islands. The size of my country is about 300,000 sq. Kms. With a coastline of more than 36,000 kms. An endless stretch of beaches to choose from. Consisting of three big island groups - luzon, visayas and mindanaw.

it is very difficult for me to narrow it all down, as there are thousand of beautiful things to see in my country, to the most touristic and the most unknown. To the most expensive beaches and to the highlands. To the most chaotic city in southeast asia which the capital metro manila to the quiet little "barrios" in the provinces where only you can hear crickets at night.

since most of the people hear and see that the philippines touristic spots are its tropical beaches, i chosed from its natural beauty and untouched locations, i will start from the northernmost point to the southernmost point of the country.

batanes are a group of islands in the north of the philippines, it is much closer to taiwan than the largest island of luzon. The tirbal/ethnic group residing in the island since centuries are called ivatans. The islands are prone to strong typhoons brought by the "amihan" winds. The ivatans built their houses by slabs of rocks. The islands can only be visited during high summer, because of powerful winds in the air and strong waves in the sea. The islands are dominated by the iraya volcano. The landscape is soleley on its own and nothing similar to the tropical vegetation from the rest of the philippines.

the cordillera mountains

the cordillera mountains are the longest and highest mountain chain chain in the philippines home of the fierce warrior tribes - the igorots and other sub-tribes which are in the past headhunters. It host's baguio city- the "summer capital" of the philippines were the weather is mild all year round, around 20's c maximum temperature. The mountains also is a popular trekking destination. With mt. Pulag being the 2nd highest mountain in the country at 2,900 meters, and the most sacred mountain to all the igorots, this is also the burial ground of the mummified chief "apo annu". The vegetation is also different, with alpine grass, pine trees and can drop to 0 c temperature at night because of the high altitude.

mayon volcano

the philippines has many active/dormant/extinct volcanoes scattered in the country, but mayon volcano stands out the best, not because its the highest or the most active, but at 2,400 meters it is the world's perfectly cone-shaped volcano.

sulu sea

the sulu sea is the philippines most beautiful and unspoilt sea. It has most of the top tourists destination in the country - the island of boracay - philipines most famous tourist beach, party island, pamalican island - where amanpulo island is located - the most expensive resort in southeast, tubbataha reefs and apo island - perfect for diving and almost half of palawan's beaches are located in sulu sea - palawan is one of the only small remaining untouched island in the philippines.

tawi-tawi islands

for me, the islands are the last frontier of the philippines, little is known about these islands, because it is located in the most southern tip of the country, and because of the political unrest in the country between the muslim extremeist, they made the southern islands in the philippines their base, so most of it are off limits to tourists, which i am in favor off, for this kept the islands as pristine as possible. It is home to the tausug tribe where "talah-talah" (seagulls) are their main delicacy.
