Parliment Tour Feb 27, 2010
Excellent and professional staff. Tour is free and very informative. We went on a Saturday and I would suggest trying to go on a week day just so you can get an idea of what Parliament is like during hours of operation as there was barely anyone around.

Unfortunately no photographs can be taken inside the buildings, but you can take them outside. The buildings themselves are gorgeous and there is a lot of history. We found the process of making Parliament earthquake safe very interesting.

From the website:

"Free, daily, one-hour guided tours of Parliament begin on the hour at the Visitor Centre in the foyer of the Beehive (Executive Wing). Take a tour with one of our trained guides to visit key parts of Parliament’s buildings and learn about our parliamentary processes. To arrange an educational visit for students, contact our Education Services."

Parliament has met on this site since 1865 when it moved from Aukland. Some of the buildings were destroyed by fire and some have been replaced and others added as needed. The Parliamentry Library and the Executive Wing are commonly known as the Beehive.

Although you can book to do a tour, you can just turn up. (unless there is 10 or more)

The tour lasts about an hour and takes in the key areas of Parliament.

The tour guides are of course very knowledgable and can answer any questions about the Parliamentry process, the history, artworks and the architecture.

At certain times some of the areas may not be accessable because they are in use for Parliamentry business.

You can do a self guided tour of the grounds or view a 12 minute video.

There is a gift shop in the visitor centre. You can take as many photos outside as you like but none are to be taken inside.
