Chicago Solo Trip - Excellent Stay Aug 05, 2017
I took an impromptu solo trip to Chicago for the first time in April 2017. I had tickets to see, "Hamilton" which is showing almost directly across the street from the hotel. Check in was a little long as there was a line when I arrived.

My was a decent size and very clean. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. The interiors of the hotel (lobby, bar, restaurant and shops) are beautiful and the location is excellent when visiting the Chicago area. Very close to public transportation. I decided to walk the city. The hotel is located in easy walking distance of the Chicago Art Institute.

I would definitely stay here again.

Very nice breakfast buffet at Lockwood just off the lobby, one cold or you could add hot items, cooked to order. Service was very nice, if maybe a bit slow. The juice was freshly squeezed, pastry fresh, smoked salmon was a nice addition. Although they did not have any of the delicious cook-to-order waffles that I love, it was still a nice place to start the day.

There is also seating throughout the lobby to enjoy a quick snack or linger over a glass of wine.

Our last night, back to our comfy bed, super clean room & bath, little glimpse of Lake Michigan out our window! This is not a cheap hotel, but it is a lovely classic hotel that everyone needs to try at least once in their life!

I had an event to shoot but it was Friday and who wants to leave Chicago on weekend....not me!

So I took my son with me and after my event we set out to shoot Chi-Town at night.

I couldn't have picked a better hotel for this than Palmer House Hilton it's a block away from all the attractions you want to see,the subway platformis right outsideat your doorstep so if you want venture out you can.

The staff was helpful, courteous and then some. I saw some other site where people complained of small rooms. Well,I lucked out my son and I received a corner king room since no more doubles were available. My son's only 14 so no big deal out room had enough space to add a sofasleeper,my son was turning cartwheel's in the room. It was spacioius, light, airy and very nostalgic. We had to large windows one on each outer wall that surprisingly open and you could hear the squeal of the subway coming thru.

This hotel has all that old world charm and elegance. Photos of all the greats lined the walls.

It's an awesome spot, looking forward to returning.

The Palmer House Mar 26, 2011
Simply a great place to stay. The structure itself is chalked full of history. Evidently portions of the "Blues Brothers" movie was filmed. I can't confirm that. Even if you do not stay in this hotel, it's worth swinging by just to snap a few photos.

In anycase the service was excellent, particularly if you are a Hilton Honors member. The rooms were nice. Although you will either get a gigantic room or a fairly small room. Evidently the big rooms go to the smokers for some reason.

The Palmer House is well located in downtown Chicago. It's a reasonable walk to Millenium Park where the big shiny bean is located. Chicago has a wealth of wonderful parks, museums and architecture. The Palmer House definitely falls into that category. There is also a large retail shopping mall located in the adjoining building. And there are no shortages of places to eat in and around the hotel.

I took a ton of photos and will add them later.

I have stayed there twice and would absolutely stay there again.

Faded elegance in a national landmark Mar 13, 2011
Never thought I would say that I stayed in a Hilton and even though this place is large, impersonal and typically American in it's subservient way it was an experience staying in a hotel that is a monument to old capitalist ideals. Truly felt myself to be in a large city at the turn of the century. So much brass and "like- to -be -European-ness about it. Painted ceilings, thick carpets, brass elevators that take forever to open at the floor you want them at.Truly a memorial to the time of the robber barons at a surprisingly affordable price.

Classy hotel near major attractions Aug 22, 2011
I decided to take a last minute weekend trip to Chicago. I wanted to find a place where I could walk anywhere I wanted to go. This hotel was centrally located to millennium park, the art museum, navy pier, and many other hot spots. It was a comfortable hotel to stay in and was pretty busy. The only downfall was the pool area. It was pretty small and not that nice.

Beautiful lobby, but disappoining room Oct 12, 2010
This historic landmark hotel is very conveniently located in downtown, near Millenium Park. Lots of bars, restaurants, shops and theaters -- all within walking distance. And there is also a big gift shop and Starbucks on the street level.

I first visited this hotel last year to have a drink in the lobby lounge. As soon as I entered the hotel, I was stunned at the beauty of the lobby. It was so elegantly charming and classical. So I decided I would stay at the hotel no matter what when I came back to Chicago.

The chance had come, and I happily booked this hotel. However, unlike the beautiful lobby, the room was dated and dirty. The furniture was so old, and the carpet was not clean. The bathroom was even worse than that. It was so tiny that I could hardly even move in the bathroom and bath tub and faucet were so dated and not working well.

There was no no mini bar, no fridge, no coffee maker, and no microwave. The worst part was that the walls were paper-thin, and I could hear every conversation from next door clearly . I was kept awake all night because I could hear phones ringing from next door, and people talking and slamming the door down the hall. Moreover, I was awakened at five in the morning from the maid vacuuming the floor.

Even though it is well located and has an amazingly beautiful lobby, I wouldn’t go back there. I paid $300 per night including tax, and I definitely think it was not worth it. It will not be easy to find the same value hotel with a cheaper rate and equally convenient location.

Palmer House Hilton Hotel

I stayed at Palmer House Hotel as part of a Priceline flight/hotel travel package. I came to the Windy City for an August 2009 TravBuddy meetup. Palmer House is a typical upscale, big American city hotel – great location, good amenities and small, but attractive rooms. It’s situated near the heart of Chicago, two blocks west of Millennium Park and close to most major sites. Palmer House has all of the features you expect from a top-flight hotel, including a Starbuck’s Café in the basement. The hotel was acquired by Hilton, so it still has an independent old world charm. If you can find a good price, I think you’ll be happy with your stay.
