Cheap place to crash Feb 17, 2013
Located halfway between Old San Juan and the airport, the hostel wasn't ideally located as hostels usually are.

That said, the crowd was very cheerful and the general atmosphere was uplifting.

The rooms were fairly neat, beds were comfortable.

The best part, as advertised, was the presence of air conditioners in every room.

Basic accommodations, worth the price you pay.

Breakfast was just toast and jelly. And there wasn't a lot in the vicinity to go eat/shop at.

Nothing bad about it, except the location.

But nothing too great either.

Halfway between the airport and old san juan? its actually about a 25 min scenic walk to old san Juan or a 5 min drive ( with all the one way roads ) and the airport is about 8 miles away.

Palace Hostel Nov 24, 2013
I must say that Palace Hostel just changed its management and that new guys are really trying to make difference and that they are very positive and nice people worth helping in any way possible. I hope that they are going to fix this place and make it good.

Palace Hostel has a pompous name and it could be palace in the ghetto area, but name does not stand for the reality of this dwelling. Parking in the front of hostel, I was blown from my feet with the smell of cat piss and dog shait. Two floor building is nested in the kind of quiet street between two larger boulevards. Most of the streets in the area are one way and sometimes it is not that easy to find the way to enter the street you want. Good thing about the hostel is that you can easily find the parking on the street in the front of the hostel or in immediate surrounding. Bad thing is that surrounding is not a happy place for people that live around. Across the street from the hostel there is a small park with sizable population of drunken, drugged folks and at night a bit of the prostitution. I was not too happy about leaving my car there especially after declining the insurance plan…

Hostel has one entrance and few cameras that make it pretty secure place to stay. Reception is on the right side entrance and usually there is always someone sitting there. Lockers exist, but they are purely made wooden things that you can break with two fingers and a bit of flexing… Mosquito doors are placed over every entrance and they are real problem in this area. Generally there is no much air inside or around this building. It is very stale, humid and very hot.

Bottom floor features few private rooms, kitchen and one bathroom. Large reception area is in dire need of some tender-love-care and few buckets of paint. Area in between two buildings doubles for “chilling” area but it is full of mosquitoes, and looks a bit dreadful. Second floor is much sunnier and nicer. Living area has a TV and small futon where you can chill and enjoy movies. Two terraces are fine place to relax, and kitchen on the second floor is a place to meet people during the breakfast time. Officially it is “free breakfast” that includes and it is limited to American pancakes and some spreads. You can also get coffee all day long. Couple bathrooms are located on this floor and they are in the good shape, clean and smell good. Towels are not provided, but you can rent them for $1 per day. Internet is good and available through the hostel. My room had one bunk bed, it was smelling a bit on mold and it had one window with wooden covers that could be easily open from outside. AC was working fine so during the night it was pleasant to sleep there. Bed was shaky what you don’t really want on the bunk beds. Any time one sleeper moves other feels it… Mattress were perfect, memory foam style.

Surrounding area has good variety of real Puerto Rican food and other kind of restaurants. Big supermarket is 5 minutes walking distance and 24h Walgreens is around the same distance. Culturally, you can enjoy in theater and Museum of Contemporary art that are in the area. At the night there is really vibrant bar scene some 10 blocks away.

Best place to sleep and meet people in San Juan! Jun 21, 2013
the Palace hostel is your best option to stay and meet other world travelers in San Juan Puerto Rico! The place is super chill, Has free breakfast, Wi Fi and memory foam beds all for way cheaper than a hotel in San Juan Plus you get to drink and hangout with people from all over the world! Its in an ideal location where you can easily get to the tourist attractions but also near the "Real" culture of Puerto Rico. we stayed here for 4 nights and only payed around $20 a night! def recommend!
