The Owl Bar is on the ground floor of a lovely Beaux-Arts building in historic Mount Vernon, that used to be a renowned hotel, but now are condos. As such the place oozes early 20th century charm and history. The Owl Bar was a speakeasy during the times of Prohibition. The bar has wood paneled walls and gothic chandeliers. There is a large bar with lit glass panels that have 3 stanzas to a poem. There are also two spooky owls with illuminated eyes there. The story goes if the owls blinked, the bar was serving. However in order to be served you had to know the secret fourth stanza of the poem behind the bar. While the bar could rely on its rich history, outside the ambiance, it is quite a modern place. The drinks are varied and quite interesting. Pumpkin sangria anyone? The menu has many different kinds of brick oven pizzas made in front of you as well has a delicious bar menu with perfect tasty treats to go with the drinks. I loved the wings and eggplant sticks. This is a fun historic place with a youthful vibe that really is a secret treasure of Baltimore.
