Cheap hostel in KL Oct 24, 2010
This is a typical guesthouse/hostel but is in the heart of the Chinatown. If you are not choosy and only need a cheap place where you can leave your things and to sleep, then this would be a good choice. We paid 32 Ringgit for the fan room with 2 single beds and a dresser (so that's 16 Ringgit or roughly 5 USD each, not bad!) The aircon room costs 42 Ringgit but A/C is on only between 9PM til 9AM. The dorm room, on the other hand, cost 11 Ringgit or about 3.5 USD per person.
I stayed twice in this place and so far found the toilets in OK conditions. If you need to take a quick shower, then you can tolerate :D. Each floor has 2 toilets (dorm room has its own as well). The building is old and the rooms are very small. You can hear the voices of the people from the other rooms. I guess when you're too tired, you just do not care and crash Zzzzzzzz. There was no unpleasant smell when I was there in both occasions. I always bring a shawl when I travel and I used on top of the sheets and pillow (that made me feel better).
If you need to access the internet, they have PCs and wi-fi access for a fee. At the rooftop, there's a backpacker's bar. Beer and mixed drinks/cocktails cost 6 Ringgit. They also serve breakfast.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take photos of this hostel. Photos posted on the website are ALWAYS better than the ACTUAL room condition.
There are 2 train lines close to this hostel (KTM and Monorail). Also, food stalls are abundant in this area and cost about 5 Ringgit on the average (rice meal or noodles). There are convenience stores nearby like 7-11, Watsons and Guardian.
So, if you will transit in Malaysia and on a tight budget, you may opt for this inn/hostel.
