The Old Man of Stoer Reviews
The Old Man of Stoer Jul 28, 2010
The Old Man of Stoer is a famous sea stack off the West Coast of Scotland. Although only just off the coast it still manages to have a real air of mystery.
There is no road to the Old Man; you have to hike for about an hour, depending on the weather, along the cliffs from the lighthouse. The land is boggy, especially when it has been raining, and riven with small streams in mini canyons; don’t try this unless you know your footwear is up to bad terrain. But even in the foggy, rainy weather we went, it was well worth the walk. The Old Man of Stoer is impressive and the walk itself is fun.
And when you return, there is a fantastic burger/ pancake van. It is run by a lovely man who really does make great food, and serves tea and coffee in real mugs. The bacon pancakes are particularly good, and if you have been clumsy and grazed your knee on a rock (who, me?) he might give you an antiseptic wipe too.
