The Old Bear Inn Cricklade Reviews
The Old Bear Inn Feb 19, 2010
The Old Bear Inn is a pub in Cricklade, that offers rooms to stay in. There are three altogether; one is en suite and the other ones share a bathroom.
But why would you want to stay in Cricklade? Basicaly, most of the hotels in Swindon are souless business boxes. Cricklade is four miles from Swindon, and the Old BEar is far nicer than a business hotel for a fraction of the price. If you are in Swindon for fun (!) then Cricklade is closer to the Cotswolds, and if you're there for business four miles makes no difference at all.
Double rooms are about £37.50 per night. The decor is quirky, the rooms are spotlessly clean, and it's lovely and warm. The en suite has a shower, adn the bathroom that hte rooms share has a bath. The rooms are at the far side of the beer garden but I didn't notice any noise; it isn't a wild sort of pub at all.
The bed is very comfortable.
The pub itself is a pleasant, old fashioned village local. It hasn't lost its charm despite a recent redecoration. There are generally three kinds of real ale on tap. Across teh road, teh Ancient Raj is a genuinely good curry house.
The price includes breakfast, which is Full English and very nice.
