Scenic Coastal Boardwalk Jul 11, 2012
Situated at the western most tip of Phillip Island, The Nobbies is a free attraction offering stunning views of the coastline, boardwalks and animal watching.

This is a perfect place for a leisurely stop during a tiresome day of visiting the many attractions on Phillip Island. Stroll along the terraced levels of boardwalk that wind back and forward along this point and take in the spectacular coastal views that stretch for as far as the eye can see.

This rocky point is home to many species of nesting seabirds, including the cute little penguins that live in the natural and man made burrows dotted randomly among the hillside.

About two kilometers offshore are the Seal Rocks. A breeding ground for tens of thousands of Australian Fur Seals it is said to be a buffet for hungry Great White Sharks that lurk beneath the waters edge. There are also specially made cameras you can use for up close viewing and even print snapshots of your choice.

Within the Nobbies Centre (free admission) you can sit down and enjoy the spectacular views while you quench your thirst or devour a meal from the cafeteria. There is a shop where you can choose from a large range of gifts and souvenirs to remind you of the time you spent here.

It would be a good idea to check the weather before you go there as it is a very exposed location and can be quite unpleasant on a bad day. One day I went there (with visiting family) and the Nobbies Centre was closed due to severe damaged suffered at the hands of a fierce Bass Strait storm. The Nobbies Centre has huge, double glazed, glass panels and many of them had been shattered by the sheer force of the wind.

This is great locale and only five minutes drive from the Penguin Parade. Rugged coastline, a huge blowhole, beautiful fauna, animals and the crisp sea air make for a great experience.

A fascinating looking place. The green hills and black rocks set upon the ocean have such stark contrast.
