The National Steinbeck Center
The National Steinbeck Center Salinas Reviews
Really nice, modern interactive Center Apr 28, 2008
I was really surprised to find the National Steinbeck Center to be a modern, attraction building with interactive and educational exhibits.
The National Steinbeck Center is devoted to the life and works of the writer John Steinbeck but you also learn a lot about the Salinas Valley and Monterey Peninsula areas during the Great Depression and what it was like to be a part of the agricultural community. I also learned about beet farming and how they extracted sugar from the root, which was the main industry of the Salinas Valley until lettuce became more profitable. It was all really fascinating!
All in all a really neat place to visit even if you aren't an avid reader of Mr. Steinbeck's work.
