The Museum of Natural History of Latvia Riga Reviews
Museum of Natural History of Latvia May 19, 2013
A bit about History...The Prime origin of this Museum is (Capital City) Riga Naturalist Society which was founded in 1845,but the year 1846 when collections of the Society were displayed in a separate building, could be considered as the starting point of the museum. The Museum contained most complete collections of plant, animal life and as well geological features of Eastern Baltic and other areas. In the Soviet Union time about 70's and 80's this Museum was the only that began an program of ecological education.
At this present time The Museum has exhibits from the collection of Latvian geology, zoology, entomology, botany and anthropology. The Pride of the Museum is collection of birds of Latvia which contains many important specimens. There is also an exhibition of tropical butterfly's.
Besides Latvian sea mammals there is an exhibit of mammals of the world, too. The animals displayed there are arranged according to their geographical distribution.
I've been myself there twice,it's worth a visit for people who are interested in Nature, animals and biology etc...!
Entrance fee isn't expensive, and it's closed only on Monday and Tuesday.if you go there 30 mins.before closing time then entrance is free.:)Location is quite central as well, very near to Circus (from other side) and Monument of freedom.
