The Museum of History of Riga and Navigation Reviews
The Museum of History of Riga and Navigation Jun 15, 2013
Another interesting Museum in Old Riga. I've been in this museum before, but that was years ago,so i decided to re-visit again, and i still find it knowledgeable. One thing I've never visited before was underground in Dome Church(this Museum is situated in Dome Church complex building!)there is sculptures and statutes and other things from 13th and 16th Century.
After that i explored Museum upstairs :)!Now i will give a glimpse in History...
The Museum of history of Riga and navigation was founded in 1773.The Museum was established after the private collection of physician Nicholas fon Himsel(a Riga Doctor), it was donated to the Riga Town Council. The permanent collection on display in five halls, encompasses the time from 9000 B.C. to 1200 A.D.,in the area of the Daugava river, and the history of Riga from 12th till 17th Century .
Two halls are devoted to the history of navigation in Latvia from ancient times to the present. There is models and drawings of ships and various instruments. Also in Museum you can see Ancient Latvian jewelry, weapons, coins, medals and crafts,etc...!
If you a are person who like History, you won't regret spend your time there. Also if you generally like to visit Museums then it's the place to be.it's Located in Old Riga,(from other side where Dome Square is)in the Riga Dome ensemble.
