The Mitchelstown caves are an absolutely beautiful place to visit, and as they're undergroung, it doesn't matter if its rainy, snowy, foggy or sunny! The caves don't flood, and the temperature stayed at about 12C all year round!

Its a great place for adults and children alike, with many amazing natural rock formations... stallegtites, stallegmites, pillars, curtains... a dream for any budding geologist, or anyone with an interest in natures awesomness!

Unfortunatley, no pictures allowed, but you can check some shots out on the official website, or its only €2 for the guidebook (incl pictures) when you get there. Did I say its only €7 to get in? So cheap for such an amazing site!

The place hasn't been commercialised, thank god, so no gift shops or cafes. There is some in the nearby village of Burncourt though, so you won't go hungry! And there are toilets on site thankfully!

Just one point to note... The caves are not suitable for people with low mobility. There are quite a few steps to get down into them, but once you get down it is flat all the way.

To conclude, you need to include this site on your tour of Ireland... it is so superior to any of the other cave systems in the country (in my opinion anyway!)
