The Miner's Cottage Charters Towers Reviews
A Charming Look at History Jun 06, 2009
If you're in Charters Towers you can't go by this place without entering it, but I'd imagine that it gets a bit overlooked due to it being down a side street just outside of town with a plain outlook and nothing overly inviting from the outside, but how first impressions can be decieving!
Upon entry, you are greeted by the sweet lady Edith and her excitable husband Tony, who is more than happy to guide you through the old books, tools, and other possessions of the cottage that represent old time living back in the Towers.
There's a DVD presentation on the history, which you can purchase for $17 at the cottage, as well as other memorabilia for sale as well. A free cup of tea or coffee is awaiting you upon entry, and you are free to grab any one of the books on display and have a read outside on the verandah.
For $11 you can pan for gold, and take home whatever you find. Gold finding is guaranteed, which makes me believe it's probably fools gold, but hey it's all in good fun, and you will wonder why you didn't do it if you don't.
Opening hours are until 2:00pm, entry for adults is $4, less for kids and package deals for families. IF you're lucky, Tony might even play you a tune or two from his accordion. A wonderful place to visit and definately the highlight of my Charters Towers trip.
