If you are a fan of the opera and are in New York City, then The Metropolitan Opera, or as commonly referred to as the Met, should not be missed! No matter what opera you attend you are in for a magical experience. Everything from the sets to the costumes to the singers and to the conductors are superb. I have had the fortunate opportunity to visit many opera houses around the world and the Met has continued to remain my favorite.
The acoustics and stage are designed in such a way that it truly does not matter where you are sitting; you are guaranteed both an enjoyable visual and audible experience. I have come to love the Family Circle seats for $15. You can wear whatever you feel most comfortable wearing. You will see people in ball gowns and tuxedos, as well as people wearing jeans and T-shirt. And every seat has a monitor in front of it that simultaneously translates the lyrics of the songs for you. Make sure to arrive with enough time before the opera to wander around the Met's beautiful grounds at Lincoln Center. Take a picture in front of the famed fountain; stair in awe at Chagall's masterpieces on either side of the grand chandelier. Also, if you find yourself wishing that you could attend an opera, but can't, go to the website listed above, as many times the opera's are broadcasted online. Enjoy the show! |
