The Mermaid Cafe Reviews

Nov 12, 2006

The Mermaid Cafe is located on Dame St, right in the heart of Dublin. It doesn't look very spectacular when you peek into the window, just a load of wooded tables and chairs, no table cloths. All in all very minimalistic and you might just ask yourself, is it worth going in. IT SO IS!

I have been to the Mermaid Cafe around 4 or 5 times already and mostly for a special treat because it is quite expensive. The menu is up on the webpage and it changes quite frequently. There is also specials on every day. If you can't decide on a starter, because they all just sound delicious, go for the Mermaid Antipasti. This is a selection of all the starters and it's a great way to get to know the menu. A shame they don't offer that for the main courses ;)

The menu mainly consists of fish dishes but they also have a vegetarian option and normally steak as well. If you love fish though, you're in the right place. I am eyeing up the Seafood Casserole every time I am in there but have never taken it. It is massive and looks divine, the next time I will go for it. Anyway, you can't go wrong with whatever dish you choose. I had swordfish, chicken, seafood chowder and lamb and all the dishes were superbly prepared. The flavours were perfect, so was the seasoning and presentation. The also serve delicious homemade bread, white and brown.

The service is so friendly and helpful. They really make you feel welcome.

Starters are between €10-€16, maincourses between €20-€30 and dessert are €9. It is more expensive but you will get a meal you won't forget for a long time.

Wow, this sounds like my dream restaurant, really! When I finally get to Dublin, this will for sure be one of my main stops! Thanks so much!!!
