One of my favorite hotel experiences...WAY above average! May 08, 2008
We arrived at the Meridian on May 8, 2008 and we were pleasantly surprised to see that it is more like a luxury condo complex. A gate and guard to enter the complex made us feel very safe and like we were at a really exclusive place. We checked in around 11am which is early since most hotels are 2-3pm and they didn't bat an eye...got us right into a top floor room.
So, we walk in and are stunned to see this posh place decked out in leather, marble and granite looking like Ethan Allen came in and furnished the whole place! There was a full kitchen with stainless steel appliances (water/ice maker in fridge door!), really cool square dishes and a full spice rack among other things. Dining room, living room with an awesome flat panel TV and free wireless internet access! Bathroom had tons of space and the bedroom (also had flat panel TV) was beautiful and had a huge closet the length of one whole wall and the doors were all mirrors. There's a coat closet and another closet holding a washer and dryer with detergent already there! The only issue we encountered was that the bathroom faucet was missing the screen so water splashed everywhere...well I briefly mentioned it to the concierge on our way out and we come home a few hours later...voila! Screen on bathroom faucet! There are two gorgeous pools and beautiful lounge chairs that are like big couches...very chic! There are other great amenities that we didn't even get to...like tennis courts, sauna, and more stuff that I can't even remember. The concierge was very helpful with all of our questions, making plans and she recommended some great towns to see and restaurants to eat at. I also found out that this place will stock your fridge before your arrival with anything you want! I think they have a grocery list that they email you. The last day I was concerned because we flew Southwest, we had to check in exactly 24 hours before to get a decent place in "line", so I stopped at the front desk to ask if the kiosk they had there would print out my boarding pass and the she said it would but insisted on doing it for me! They were so helpful! Housekeeping did an excellent job every day. It was very quiet...we barely ran into anyone. I really liked that you could go to the Strip for all the action and come back to a nice quiet relaxing place to sleep off all the partying ;) I can not say enough good things about this place. The Meridian is just off of the Strip on E. Flamingo. You could walk to the Strip, but in summer heat I'd rather drive...especially since there's free parking at every casino!! For the location, accomodations and price, this place is UNBEATABLE! (my rates: $79-$89 @ hotwire.com) Part of the Vegas 2008 travel blog |

Cut costs if you like to walk and make your own bed! Feb 28, 2008
We stayed here for our wedding weekend (February 2008) in Vegas. When we walked through the door we were very impressed by the very modern decor and use of warm colors- we felt at home very quickly. The beds were comfortable and the main room of our two bedroom suite had an iPod-compatible alarm clock! While we booked at a good price ($109/night+taxes) only a couple of weeks before we arrived, we soon realized the discount was due to the hotel's location. The website boasts a "7 minute walk to the strip"; maybe if you're a runner on your early morning jog! For the rest of us who "do Vegas" at night, battling crowds, with a three-foot-long margarita in one hand, already a little tipsy, it takes A LOT longer! My husband and I even got lost trying to get back to the hotel on foot after our wedding dinner!
I can say that we felt very secure while on the grounds of the Meridian. Every guest is given a gate pass that opens main gates from the road, pool gates, and stairway doors! But be careful, the replacement cost is something like $400 if you lose your's! There are guards 24 hours at the drive-in gate, who were very gracious about calling our rooms when our guests arrived down below. Also, we had several friends and relatives staying in suites similar to our's, by which we discovered that each room has different equipment. Apparently many of the suites are privately owned and then leased as timeshares, therefore there is no standard for each space. My mother's kitchenette did not have a can opener or a pot, but our's did, so we ended up doing a lot of trading back and forth over the weekend. The full cooktops were great once we located a grocery store a couple blocks away and brought some food and drinks back! We cook breakfast, reheated leftovers, and mixed Bloody Marys before going out where they were $10+ on the strip! This is another opportunity this hotel offers to save some dough. The room had a mini-washer and dryer, although we never used it. Housekeepers cleaned our room two of the three days that we stayed and my mom's room once during those same three days. Since we never put our privacy signs on the doorhandles, it would appears there is not a full-time housekeeping staff. Lastly, when my mother forgot her makeup bag upon checking out it took MONTHS before the hotel would mail it back to her. She left multiply messages over the course of several days before she ever heard back from them, then days after that they finally "located" her bag... the ordeal went on and on. The staff here is less than fantastic, both in work ethic or enthusiasm, but hopefully you won't be spending that much time at the hotel while in Vegas! Overall I would recommend these suites to couples traveling together or traveling companions splitting a room; anyone who doesn't mind doing a little extra work to save some bucks, that is. If you're looking to be pampered while on your Vegas vacation, this is not the hotel for you! |
