Very nice bungalow style Villa hotel Dec 09, 2012
The Little Garden, is a kind of a boutique/villa hotel, located in a quiet residential area of Boeung Keng Kang, Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The hotel is not very close to the river side, but it is just a short Tuk Tuk ride away to the river side, Royal palace and to the major touristic area. I reserved this hotel based on the some good reviews on Agoda.com and paid $50/night, including breakfast and taxes, due to the high season.

From the Phnom Penh airport(PNH), the car ride must take about 30-45mins depending on the traffic and it cost me $10 on an air conditioned car, since I prearranged the taxi prior to my arrival. However prepaid taxi is also available at PNH airport, which might be slightly less.

The driver was not able to recognize the hotel since it is kind of residential bungalow, in a very quiet narrow residential road. Since I had the hotel information printed out, the driver was able to figure out the street and finally able to spot the small entrance hidden by the trees! Since I arrived close to the midnight, we had to wake the staff that was sleeping just inside the doorway. The staff showed immediate attention and did a quick check-in, since I had a prepaid reservation through Agoda.com. The staff picked up my bags and we had to claim up the stairs, as there is no elevator, and let me inside the room. The staff also turned on the air conditioned and explained everything about the hotel and he left happy.

The hotel looked very nice upscale residential bungalow from outside, it has medium sized very clean outdoor pool by the entrance gate surrounded by plants and trees. There were few pool chairs and table/chairs around the pool. The pool area looked very relaxing and serene!

The lobby area had few olden style wooden table/chairs, a showcase, old styled title flooring and some nice arts and staff were amazingly friendly and helpful all the time.

My room upstairs had a shared big balcony with another room, with a nice view of the pool and the garden. The balcony was very nicely arranged with plants, wooden sofa and table/chairs to dine outdoor.

The room i was given was very specious and big windows on two sides, one with pool view and the other a viewing a room of the building next door. That seemed to be a little privacy issue as I could see people on the other building as it was very close and the window curtains were not that thick enough! That's the drawback I felt about my room, but it wasn't that big of an issue.

The room lighting were not that great, but was manageable, air condition worked well, the ceiling fan was good and helpful sometimes. There was a mini fridge/stocked minibar and a safe locker in the room.

The bed was very big, firm and comfortable with clean sheets, pillows and cushions.

The bathroom was fresh and tidy. The sink was well kept and decorated with small stones. The glassed standup shower area was perfect with hot shower. There were enough clean hand and bath towels kept in the bathroom. No complaints on the bathroom.

My room rate included a complementary breakfast which was just a basic combination items from the menu. The breakfast also included orange juice or coffee. Because the hotel has its own kitchen for the guests, it is possible to order food from the menu anytime. The food cost seemed to be normal to local standards.

The hotel offered free wi-fi and the wi-fi strength inside the room was pretty good.

I did not have a chance to explore much around Phnom Penh, but the most happening area is the river front which only takes a short ride by the Tuk Tuk for a cost about $2-3, from this hotel. And to get to the Mekong Express Bus station (if traveling to Siem Reap), the Tuk Tuk ride will cost $5 or less.

Overall, I liked this place for its quietness, cleanliness and the convenience of a living in a bungalow home! Even though I thought it was expensive for that location, however, I did not regret it based on the comfort and the service. I might consider staying again in future.
