The Last Frontier Boutique Resort Sabah Reviews
Touching heaven! Aug 03, 2012
The guesthouse – run by a Belgian and Chinese Malaysian - is really in the middle of the jungle. It is about 2 hours drive from Sandakan town/airport. We had a transfer from Sepilok and one back to Sandakan airport. The first one was arranged by The Last Frontier but the other one – cause we had to leave before 8am for the flight – was a private one and costs double. So keep in mind to book your flight in the afternoon.
You only can book a 3-day stay all-in.
Rooms are spotless clean and you have everything you need. Meals are included. The cook studied French Cuisine and I can say the food was fantastic! We loved it! From the open restaurant you have a view over the jungle. Fantastic! And you can enjoy a breeze, very welcome in that heat!
We had a guided jungle walk and two boat trips – all included in the price – and saw a lot of wildlife: Proboscis, Orang Utan, Hornbill bird, snakes, a wild bore… If you are lucky you even can see wild elephants but we didn’t.
One more thing: it takes 600 steps to get up to the guesthouse and it really is exhausting in that heat. It is well worth the effort but if you haven’t the strength to take that stair, don’t stay here cause you have to take it at least 2 times a day.
For us it was the highlight of our Malaysia trip!
