Brighton's largest pub Apr 05, 2012
Positioned close to the Pavilion, the King and Queen pub is the largest pub/bar in Brighton. It is also known for being one of the best places to watch live football (soccer) matches and has 2 massive projection screens and a few TV's dotted about for this purpose.

The pub is split over 2 floors with the top floor effectively being a giant balcony to allow people to watch the large screens from upstairs. In fact they have positioned a TV so that no matter where you sit it is possible in theory to watch a match. The downside is they don't really screen any other sports even when there are no football matches playing which is a real shame considering the projectors and they are kitted out to potentially be a great sports bar.

The drinks here are very cheap for Brighton but don’t expect much in the way of variety however all the usual brands are to be found behind the bar which is enough to keep most happy. The pub also serves reasonably priced food but don't expect top quality here. Its food that serves the purpose of filling you up if you are hungry and the menu contains the usual pub fair of burgers, steak and nachos. It is possible to find much better food for the same price if a little more in Pompoko which is less than a 5 minute walk round the corner from the pub.

The pub has a pool table upstairs as well as a foosball table (table football) which can make this a fun and cheap place to start an evening.

As expected the King and Queen has been decorated with a medieval style in mind. This does a good job of adding a bit of atmosphere to what could otherwise be a dull setting when football matches aren't on as there is no music and this is not really a place for people watching. It can get very packed in here when a major match is on so much so that if you arrive too late you'll be looking at close to 1/2 an hour queing at the bar and a seat is certainly out of the question. The beer garden is large and has outdoor heaters.

The King and Queen is a cheap and cheerful pub, a good place to start an evening cheaply with some friends. It's not somewhere I would want to spend an entire evening or take someone on a date.
