The King and I Saint Louis Reviews

Walking through the doors of this great Thai restaurant is the smoking dining room on the left and non-smoking on the right. For non-smokers you have a chance to sit at tables recesed into the floor, so it's as if your sitting at a table nihonjin-style. I'm sure it makes for a fun time as each table could seat at least 8 people. The smoking section doesn't have those tables though, but makes up for it by housing the bar.
I got dish 36, the Tofu in Curry Sauce; choice of red or green curry. They both taste similar, but I would venture to say the red is the better of the two. The dish is accompanied by white rice, with mushrooms, peppers, and onions in the curry sauce as well. It's platted with a fist sized bowl of curry on one side of the dish and the white rice in an inverted bowl shape like a Hostess brand Snowball, creating a nice contrasting visual. But, the definitive way to eat it is to just dump the bowl of golden lovelyness ontop of the rice and mix to your hearts content. Add a glass of Thai iced tea and you've got it going on.
I had a chance to sample their crab-rangoon, also. Expecting it to be a big ball of grease, dough, and cheese I never bothered to order it. My friends were pretty keen on it though so I went in on thirdseys and I'm sure glad I did. It was the best crab-rangoon I've ever had. You could barely taste the grease; just taste the crispy outside with an APPROPRIATE amount of filling on the inside (not a pound of cheese with an ounce of wrapper). Their sweet and sour sauce is not overbearingly sweet, either. I'd recomend mixing a little sriracha (that spicey scarlet sauce with the pepper seeds in it) in with your sweet and sour sauce for a three point combination of tangyness.
The King and I's dishes are usually in the $7 to $10 dollar range, and the portions will satisfy most. The staff are friendly and even indulged me to take my friends on a brief tour of the recessed table seats in the non-smoking section. I give The King and I 4 stars.
