The Khukuri Nepalese Edinburgh Reviews
Good, hard to find late(ish) food Sep 18, 2012
Open late, sat me at 10pm on a Sunday.
Fast, friendly greeting and took order promptly.
Recommend the Khukuri beer, on par with most cheap Asian beers (Tiger, Singh, etc.)if you want to try a Nepalese beer.
App: Bara, a black lentil pancake made with garlic, ginger, and various spices. Himalayan dipping sauce; tomato, garlic, ginger and spices . The pancake is thick, similar in structure/texture to cornbread (but not in taste). It's good, hearty. The sauce is a tasty, mildly spicy red sauce. I liked it. $3.95 GBP
The Pirou-Piruo is a medium spiced dish of lamb (or chicken) with ginger, garlic, onion, coriander and other spices. It is placed on a hot plate and served in a clay pot. It's kind of like a stew. $12.95GPB
Even though I was there late, there were a few tables of larger parties, so I think the place must get busy during dinner hours. The food was very tasty and the seemed to be made with quality ingredients.
It's away from all the main tourist areas, but not too far. It's definitely worth a stop in if you're in the area or looking for a later bite.
