Kapalua Bay Villas Sep 1st through the 5th
Ever since I booked our vacation I have been really antsy to see what our unit would look like in Maui. Well, yesterday that anticipation and nervousness finally got settled. We arrived in Maui and headed to the Kapalua Bay Villas, where we booked our four night stay. Kapalua Bay is situated in the Northwestern part of the Island about 10 minutes drive from Lahaina and Kaanapali.
The grounds are prestine, and the Villas are part of the Ritz-Carlton, to which we have pool access, but is unfortunately going through some renovation. We got unit 31-G2 of the regular Kapalua Villas that comes in 3 different categories: Kapalua Gold, Kapalua Ridge and Kapalua Villas. Our villa has a spectacular ocean view of the Pacific Ocean. The exterior is well kept and maintained, however the interior is a bit stuck in the 80's. The villa is huge for just a couple, since it is equipped with everything you may need. The bedroom has a large king size bed with island themed beddings (yuck!) and the bathroom has an oversize tile tub that reminds me of those old Japanese jacuzzis. The whole bathroom is basically made of tiles except the closets and cabinets. It also has two sinks and ample closet space. It works but like I mentioned before it seems a bit stuck in the 80's.
Of course we have our own lanai overlooking the Pacific. Eating breakfast out on the lanai is a real treat. The Kapalua Villas don't seem to be too popular with younger crowds, so the atmosphere is calm and relaxed. In fact, we've been up for 3 hours now and the only human contact we've had was housekeeping ringing our doorbell.
There are three pool areas around the complex, and tennis courts right up the hill from our unit. The Villas also has its own chapel, convenience store, five-star restaurant, two championship golf courses, and a medical clinic with doctors on demand. The almost private beach is just a 5 minute walk away. Technically, Maui's beaches are public but this one is tucked away between rocks such that it's only convenient for villa residents.
If you're like us with an aim to just have a peace and quiet setting The Kapalua is suited for you. The price of over $240 to $250 a night on the regular villa is well worth it. Although some of the units are not quite "modern" inside it's still a good deal. We would definitely go back to Kapalua villas but next time we will book Kapalua gold or even the Ridge.
