yes , this was the only typical Irish pub ,we visited in ipanema, the food was excellent and was frequented with other Irish people, not like shennigans which is in my opinion over rated and not even Irish owned ! will definately pop in for a pint and a steak when back in Rio next weekend !

If you are in the mood for a pint of Guinness, The Irish Pub is your place to go. The owner really is irish, and though imported beers are a little expensive, it's still cheaper than other irish pubs in Rio.The ambience is quite irish, too, without overcrowding the place with too many references. Just a few tables and a large balcony, not the all-in-one kinda place that is Shenanigans, for example. It's not too noisy: you will only hear other people's chit chat if you pay attention to it. It's best just to let the nice music selection work for you. After all, the owner, Padraig, is such an Elvis Costello fan that he named his kid after him! There are some food options, but people usually come to the pub just to drink some nice beer and meet friends - some that you already know, and some that you are about to meet for the first time. It's a very laid-back place, so don't be intimidated when someone starts talking to you out of nowhere.

This pub was quite the meeting place last year for Carnival. I met up with a friend I met there last year just last night, and tonight we are catching dinner. Rio is a great place!
