The Inland Sea San Lawrenz Reviews
A Great Dive spot for Scuba Divers Jul 29, 2009
The Inland Sea is located near to Dwejra Point very close to the Azure Window. It is a small salt water lake which connects to the open Mediterranean sea by a narrow tunnel through the cliffs.
The water is crystal clear and it is considered the best dive site in Malta. This was evident on the day that we visited as there were many groups of divers getting ready to head out, or were returning through the narrow tunnel.
Boathouses line the right hand side of the area and this is where the boat trips set off from in calm weather. Local fishermen take you through the narrow tunnel and out into the open Mediterranean to view the caves and dramatic cliff faces as well as taking you right upto the Azure Window and Fungus rock.
Although I do not dive myself we were informed that many come here to dive the 'Blue Hole' which is a huge circular formation of limestone rock which contains an underwater arch giving access to the open sea. The 'Blue Hole' can be found directly infront of the Azure Window or can be accessed by diving through the small tunnel on the Inland Sea area and turning left.
Another area of natural beauty that should not be missed in my opinion especially if you are a keen scuba diver, you never know I may even be tempted to learn myself!
