Most amazing view I've seen Mar 12, 2011
I have travelled many places but being able to take a rental car about 4-5 hrs to the east of Reykjavik to this place and just relaxing and enjoying the scenary (icebergs/seals) was truly the best. I would recommend this to anyone.. Not too many tours go here but you should rent a car and go for a day trip.

The Icebergs of Jökulsárlón , Iceland. Oct 04, 2010
the icebergs of jökulsárlón is one of the MUST SEE in iceland. it is where you can see icebergs up close and personal - you can even touch and play with them!

it is around 4-5-6 hours from the capital reykjavik (depends on time) and located in southern iceland in vatnajökull national park (the largest national park in iceland).

the icebergs themselves do not carve away from vatnajökull glacier (which is the largest glacier by volume in europe) instead from an armlet of the big glacier itself - the breiðamerkurjökull glacier - which is very interesting to see as its not solid as vatnajökull glacier - but its craggy and spikey (signs of melting).

jökulsárlón is a glacial lagoon which is getting deeper and wider as time goes by the melting of breiðamerkurjökull - there is a teem of wildlife that inhabits the surrounding area of the lagoon and the iceberg itself - sea birds and seals.

jökulsárlón is famed for the beauty and grace of the icebergs that float in the lagoon that many film companies had shot their movies in the area.

again, as it is iceland, it is very expensive just to get here - hiring a car or doing it with a tour group but it is really worth the money - as the glaciers in the world are melting and probably jökulsárlón would last only until maximum 50 years.

One thing I like about TravBuddy is: they are not opposed to featuring a work that was not written recently. :D ...... so even an older review can come forward to shine!!!
