The House Reviews
Jul 08, 2007
The House California Cuisine Restaurant was started by Tomer Biran, head chef and GM of “208 Rodeo”, an exclusive Beverly Hills restaurant, who helped his friend Arik start The House in an elegant, secluded villa near Zhongshan Park.
When you arrive at The House you will see a house surrounded by beautiful trees. Once you walk up the steps you will be seated, we sat on the patio and got to eat underneath the stars. The menu was simple enough to read...as it is based off of the Western World. I looked at it and decided that I wanted to get the Bruchetta Salad. So in my head I was picturing a base of leafy greens, tomatoes, bread and vinaigrette dressing. Well, when the food came I was in for a surprise. It was about six inches high of chopped tomatoes on a big, round plate with a leaf on the corner as a garnish. Now don't get me wrong...everyone elses dinner looked delicious and mine did have really good flavor...I just wasn't expecting to eat all tomatoes in a oil dressing. So just remember...as chinese food in the US isn't the same as chinese food in china...Western food isn't the same over there as it is here! |

The were in various states… BLOG: In my great-grandfather's house |

This morning we visited by great-grandfather's house. It has little bits of carving along the pillars and on the window panels. I could imagine how it looked with the old wall-fence, courtyard and houses inside. During the communist era, the compounds were built up with additional units which are now sublet… BLOG: Parting thoughts from Xiamen |

Then they took me to his home, which was the house my great-great-grandfather owned and died in. People in China have a different sense of what is "nice" and what is "ugly". The historic home had been restored with "nice" modern tiling, exposing only the old door arches and door.
They… Trip to Chan Village |
