Paphos mosaics - The House of Dionysos Sep 05, 2012
Found in the historic and beautiful town of Paphos, the House of Dionysus is an incredible attraction for tourists. A total of 556sq metres of the floor space in 14 rooms are covered with mosaics depicting various scenes from Greek mythology.

Named the "House of Dionysus" because the main floor of this 2nd century house originally boasted an incredible mosaic depicting Dionysus (the Greek god of wine) riding a panther. The house is located on a small hill that overlooks the town.

The house is located in the Archaeological Park which is open to visitors every day. It has been restored and the roof has been replaced to protect the mosaics on the floor from the elements. Originally the house would have had several floors but the upper floor has collapsed.

Hmmmm... mountain man riding a panther... I can see it! After enough wine, anything is possible including wild animal taming. I might actually think I am Ariadne can help slay a Minotaur. :P
