The hotel is new or newly remodelled. Bathrom fixtures were all nice. There are several towers in the hotel, lots of shops on the ground floor with good merchandise, even if you don't need anything, it's good for browsing. The room was clean and comfortable. We did not eat at the restaurant in the hotel, but heard from others late that the bar was good. It is conveniently located, so overall a decent place to start your Alaskan trip.

Best hotel in Anchorage Feb 09, 2010
I have stayed at the Captain Cook many times over the past 20 years and have always been impressed with the consistent high quality of the hotel, it's restaurants and the high level of service. I started my love of this hotel by staying here for business conferences and have expanded to staying here whenever I'm passing thru Anchorage. Some winter stays, when the weather was particularily nasty, I never left the hotel. It has become my home away from home.

The only gripe I have had over many stays is the lack of air conditioning - not an issue in the winter but it can get pretty hot in the summer. Solution is an upper floor so you can open a window without too much street noise and turn on the fan.

Great health club.

Fletchers is a great spot to have a drink and rub elbows with a broad cross section of locals, US Senators, business people and tourists. Good pub fare from pizza to steaks. Try the lasagna with a glass of Luna Sangiovise.

The Whales Tale is a good place for a latte in the morning, a light lunch, or a glass of wine a night.

The Crow's Nest is one of Anchorage's premier restaurants located at the top of tower 3. A world class meal and a view of the sunset over Cook Inlet.

The Pantry is open for breakfast and lunch and has great food as well.
