The Hoop Stock Reviews
The Hoop Sep 05, 2014
The Hoop is a lovely pub in Stock, near Billericay. It serves very good food, most of it traditional English things like lamb shank, and has a great selection of cask ale and cider, and decent wine. It is very much a traditional, wood framed building, with a relaxed bar part downstairs and a restaurant upstairs. I’d consider pre-booking on a weekend night.
Prices are about average for a gastropub, at around £10-£15 for a main, and very nice ingredients. The service is good; you order at the bar, at least in the downstairs part, but they’ll gladly open a tab and the waitresses were lovely. There are enough vegetarian options, and lots of fish.
Disabled access could be tricky - it’s a traditional building and there’s certainly no way to go upstairs if you’re not mobile - but the pub part would be fine on crutches. There’s a beer garden, and I would imagine well behaved children would be welcome, but we didn’t see any so it would be worth asking them.
