Late night fun in Paris Dec 31, 2007
The Highlander is one of those places you'd never find unless you knew about it. The Rue de Nevers is about 100 meters long and is hidden under what looks like apartments. It's at the end of the Pont Neuf, on the Left Bank, and unless you were looking for something specific (like the Highlander) you'd have no reason to poke your nose in the alley.
I had a friend in Paris who told me that The Highlander was a place where all the bartenders in Paris went for a pint after their respective bars closed at 2am. It's open until 5am, and offers a cozy bar upstairs and a cave-like dancefloor and bar downstairs. The music is a mix of new and old, and everyone is just looking to have a good time. The crowd here is friendly and mixed; you'll see Parisians and expats, most of whom speak English. Everytime I went there, whether it was on a Tuesday night for a pint and free wi-fi or on a Saturday night for more rowdy celebrations, there were people to meet and drinks to drink. Their Long Islands are large and extremely alcoholic, and they offer Strongbow on tap, which is always good. And of course, Guinness. I'm trusting you travbuddies not to turn it into a woeful tourist dump...I expect you have enough respect not to. And I wouldn't want you to miss out on a good time while you're in Paris...especially if you're looking for some english-speakers! :) Part of the Paris 2007-2008 travel blog |

A hidden gem Aug 19, 2009
The Highlander is an excellent pub. I spent many weekends in this pub while studying in Paris. Upstairs it's a bar with tv's to catch the latest game. Then, downstairs the bar is turned into a dance area late at night. You can find interesting people from all over the world here.
The drinks are good and the male bartenders are sexy. At least they were when I went there. |

got off at Palais Royale Musee du Louvre and walked toward the Highlander, a Scottish bar on Rue de Nevers by the Pont Neuf. We stopped at a "bathroom", which was really just a boat dock so we could all pee (champagne goes right through you!), and then on the Pont Neuf we watched the Eiffel… New Year's Eve in Paris |
