The Hershey Story, The Museum on Chocolate Avenue Reviews
Definitely worth visiting to learn more about Hershey Jul 04, 2016
Located in the town of the same name as the famous candy company, The Hershey Story, the Museum on Chocolate Avenue is a history museum that tells the story of Hershey. And in this case, that has multiple meanings.
Located on Chocolate Avenue, which is a street that is marked by street lamps shaped like Hershey Kisses, it can be a little tricky to find. There is free parking at the back of the museum, with the entrance on the left side of the building. And keep in mind, it is NOT within walking distance from Hersheypark, mainly due to the lack of sidewalks.
The museum starts with the story of Milton Hershey, the man who founded the Hershey Company. From his beginnings and how he tried and failed to get started, to finding ways to be more efficient in chocolate-making, thus making it more affordable to the general public. And the different products that he made over the years, as they did not just made chocolate only.
After that, it gets into the history of the town of Hershey, and the legacy that Milton Hershey left. As you would see in this museum, Milton Hershey was much more than just chocolate, as he also founded the school for boys and helped making it a better town by building homes for the workers.
The artifacts are interesting to look at, and there are very good descriptions to help tell the story. Plus a few short films that are worth a watch, along with some interactive exhibits.
Also, there may be temporary exhibitions at the bottom floor, which may or may not be worth checking out. The one that I saw, was okay, but the kids that I saw there, seemed to have a lot of fun there. I wrote more about this part in the blog.
Overall, I thought the museum was an enjoyable experience, and worth checking out for anyone more interested in the history of the town and/or the man himself, and how he revolutionized chocolate.
Worth a visit for anyone with enough time in Hershey.
