The Haunch Of Venison Salisbury Reviews
The Haunch of Venison: A very handy place, also with ghosts Jul 11, 2008
The Haunch of Venison in Queen St has seen a lot of history over the years, it was a brothel in the 13th Century, & houses a genuine hand which was sliced off a cheating gambler by a butcher while playing cards. The hand discovered in the 19th Century, can be seen in another room in the wall behind a glass partion. It was stolen once, but huridly returned after wierd things began happening. The Bee-Gee's have stayed there, & one of them witnessed something very strange indeed. Visitors often comment on feeling strangely cold in parts of the building and staff are often annoyed when things are moved or hidden, only to reappear a few weeks later. There has also been phantom hoovering when no one was about.
There is a woman who haunts the building, she lost her baby & she is buried in St Thomas?s churchyard at the back, she is detected always by the smell of fresh earth. On entering the building there is a pong of old wood, there's also an open fireplace & restaurant upstairs. Above the bar is a deers head. There is much more information on the website.
