Drive to & Boat-In Restaurant, Bar, Pool & Super SunSet Viewing May 20, 2009
Located in South Tampa south of Gandy Blvd. you will find The Hula Bay Club on the bay shared with St. Petersburg on the road that used to lead to Tyson Beach.
Hula Bay is new restaurant with a Hawaiian theme & an Old Florida feel. Dress code seemed to be swimsuit tops & covers, shorts, t-shirts, sandals & flip flops. For the non-locals Hula Bay is located in what looks like an industrial area. Don't worry a quick left after the large boat warehouse & you have arrived. If you go too far, the road ends at Lazzara Yachts and you'll have to turn around after a bit of drooling & a few pictures. For having so much water Tampa has very few restaurants that can be accessed by boat, now there is one more. THBC has many choices, you can choose inside seating not sure why anyone would pick this option with the great views outside on the deck or by the pool. Yes they have a pool with seven cabanas. A 300 + foot ledge with bar stools that overlook Tampa Bay. Last but not least Duke’s Retired Surfer’s Island Bar named after Duke Kahanamoku from Hawaii that is on the list of need to do soon. Hula Bay Club Food Salads & Appetizers- I had the Wakane Seaweed salad Classic Rolls Specialty Rolls Nigiri Sushi and Sashimi- not for me, but everyone said they very good & they looked good. Loggers-Slow roasted luau BBQ, Linda shared a bite with me-O Yes it was good Beach Tacos Duke’s Burgers- I shared I/2 half of a WipeOut topped with Duke’s burger sauce, bleu cheese, red lava, onion straws served on Hawaiian sweet bun. Duke's Hawaiian Fish Sandwich-1/2 of the Blackened Grouper with molten Bleu cheese sauce. On the Deck- shared by the whole table- Conch fritters with avocado aioli and remoulade, melon. Little Dukes-Sliders -3 of them Quartered & shared around the table had the Chipotle Chicken. Featured Cocktails-It was a beer & wine Birthday Party The food & service were outstanding as was the view of the pool, people, boats & the bay. The only thing I would change is to arrive a little later to be able to see the complete SunSet. |
