The Green Welly
The Green Welly Tyndrum Reviews
The Green Welly Apr 24, 2011
Well, this is the second time I have reviewed a service station!
The Green Welly is a petrol station, café and shop in Tyndrum. It is across the road from tourist information.
So why on earth am I reviewing a petrol station? Well, for a start, you have no idea how hard it can be to get petrol in the Highlands. Seriously. On Sundays, even the supermarkets shut their pumps at 6pm. So stock up. Second, this place is amazing. As well as the usual sweets-and-tourist-tat, there is a Proper Outdoor Kit store. So there you are – got a car, filled it with your mates, got almost the whole way to the camp site, and one friend says, “do you think I need boots?” or “should I have brought a raincoat?” – this is probably the friend with the heaviest back pack – at the Green Welly, you can stock up without bothering to pull up in a town centre and hunt things down. Not wasting an hour looking for a raincoat-shop in the pouring friends may just save your friendship!
And there are some classier than normal gifts, Scottish foods, and spotless, warm toilets too.
This I a good place to know about, for either petrol, snacks, food, or not strangling the friend who thought “July in Scotland” meant “I won’t need a fleece.”
