Giza and Pyramids Mar 17, 2011
When going to the pyramids most people go to Giza which is cool, but it is in fact on of three areas in a long valley of pyramids. The two smaller sites are further from town, but with fewer tourists and very cool. You can easily do all three in one day. Don't miss the others.

The Great Sphinx Jul 27, 2009
The Great Sphix of Egypt is the ancient megalithic statute besides the pyramids at Gizza. This is one of the top 20 mighty sculpures of the world that I would like to see in this lifetime. The others include Christ Redeemer of Brazil, Buddha Vairocana of Todai-ji-Temple in Japan, Giant Lesha Buddha of China, the Temple of Expiatori del Sagrat in Spain the Amida Buddha of Japan and many more. I will have to compile the list sometime.

I visited egypt more than once when I was still a Travel Consultant. I can still hear the buzz in the souks and the smell of the desert, the smell of camels and the spice in the food. The call to prayer from the Mosque speakers and feel the sand dust upon me as we trekked the desert. None of that stuck in my memory like the face of this giant sculpture; the Sphinx.

The sphinx stands out because it is a creature of the ancients, a human head and a lion’s body. Such was the depictions of the ancients. Sphinx translates into “strangler” and was used by earlier Greeks to refer to a creature in the old with a woman’s head and a lion’s body. The Greek creature had wings added to it, which is unlike the Egyptian Sphinx. The Sphinx in Egypt was built as a guardian figure in 2530 BC by order of Pharao Khafre to wade away evil spirits. Many arabs refer to it at the father of terror “Abu al-Hawl”.

Really? I did not hear about that. I will research more about it. But another visit back to Giza would be fun, now that I know more about what I want to experience.

I think they just uncovered an old wall that was apparently errected around it to protect it from the sands and winds.
